DIY Recipes

Want to try making your own skincare at home?

This initial recipe is one of my discontinued products, a beeswax deodorant made with clays and plant butters. This is a great place to start.

Beeswax Deodorant

100 Gram Batch

Sunflower Oil - 15.75 grams

Shea Butter - 21.45 grams

Beeswax - 13.68 grams

Arrowroot Starch - 32.68 grams

Bentonite Clay, Sodium - 1.68 grams

Baking Soda - 9.60 grams

Vitamin E - 2 grams

Essential Oils (Research hormone safe blends) 4.19 grams (or less)

Six Month Shelf Life - 1 Year Kept Cool

Designate a pyrex or metal bowl for your skincare projects. It is possible to clean it out, but after you start making your own stuff, you won't want to stop or taste patchouli in your pasta. I got a few at Goodwill when I first started.

Baine Marie = Double Boiler = a small bowl on top of a pot so that the bottom of the bowl is in the water but not touching the bottom. This protects the delicate oils from too much heat.

Place Beeswax + Sunflower Oil in the pyrex or metal bowl in the pot with water, if you have a pyrex, keep the heat lower as the glass touches the bottom of the pan and is exposed to more heat.

Melt the beeswax and sunflower oil together, once fully clear and uniform add shea butter and turn off the heat. Stir to combine.

In a separate glass bowl or dish sift together the dry ingredients.

Pour the dry ingredients into the wet and stir over low heat in the pyrex or metal bowl until combined.

Once smooth and uniform liquid, remove from heat and stir in essential oils and vitamin E.

Pour into tubes or tins, or whip it as it cools and make a softer cream.
